The Federal Ministry of Education has confirmed that the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe, received Presidential approval before the Federal Executive Council’s seven-year moratorium on new tertiary institutions.
Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa said President Bola Tinubu approved three new universities — Epe (Lagos), Kachia (Kaduna), and Ogoniland (Rivers) — through a Presidential Executive Memo.
He noted that Epe University’s announcement was delayed due to the National Assembly’s 2025 recess, which postponed the passage of its establishment bill.
Dr. Alausa reaffirmed that the moratorium remains binding, aimed at improving funding, quality, and sustainability across existing institutions.
The Ministry clarified that the Epe University approval complied fully with procedures before the moratorium took effect.
